The La Ronge Native Women's Council partnered with various agencies including the La Ronge Indian Band and Kikinahk Friendship Centre to host a 4 day Wellness Conference March 25th - 28th.. The first day's events were held at Jonas Roberts Memorial Hall and included introductions of dignitaries and speakers. These included Grand Chief Phil Fontaine of the AFN, (Assemby of First Nations), Chief Ron Michel of the Prince Albert Grand Council, Chief Tammy Cook-Searson (La Ronge Band) and other political leaders including the Honorable Joan Beatty, and Mayor Joe Hordyski. Sorry if we missed anybody.
All were treated to a fantastic traditional meal Sunday evening consisting of fresh fish, moose, wild rice, and other treats (blueberries). Entertainment and a fashion show with all of the Chief's being models came later.
Monday's events were at Kikinahk Friendship Centre from which these pictures have been taken. Events there included many presenters providing information on important topics relevant to the conference, along with displays of Teepees and tents outdoors, with traditional activities such as tea making, moosehide stretching, and traditional games demonstrations by local elders happening.
